WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?
Spinal manipulation therapy describes techniques where the hands are used to manipulate, massage, mobilize, adjust, stimulate, apply traction to, or otherwise influence the spine and related tissues; in chiropractic care, this most commonly takes the form of spinal manipulation.

Chiropractors provide natural, drugless, nonsurgical health treatments, relying on the body’s inherent recuperative abilities. They also recognize that many factors affect health, including exercise, diet, rest, environment, and heredity. Chiropractors recommend changes in lifestyle that affect those factors.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
Like other health practitioners, chiropractors follow a standard routine to get information needed to diagnose and treat patients. They take the patient’s health history; conduct physical, neurological, and orthopedic examinations; and may order laboratory tests. X rays and other diagnostic images are important tools because of the chiropractor’s emphasis on the spine and its proper function. Chiropractors also analyze the patient’s posture and spine using a specialized technique. For patients whose health problems can be traced to the musculoskeletal system, chiropractors manually adjust the spinal column.

WHAT CAN CHIROPRACTIC MEDICINE TREAT?
Chiropractic treatment can help you find relief for a wide variety of injuries and ailments, including:

• Motor Vehicle Accidents
• Job Injuries
• Headaches
• TMJ Dysfunction
• Neck Pain

IS IT GOING TO HURT?
Every adjustment is specific and different to each patient. The adjustment can always be modified to meet your needs and comfort.

CAN I COME IN IF I AM PREGNANT?
Chiropractic relieves several pregnancy symptoms allowing muscular tension and pelvic torsion to decrease in our moms. Chiropractic works to benefit the biomechanical issues of the mother and her baby. Chiropractic is a continual treatment through pregnancy that allows great relief.

CAN I BRING MY KIDS FOR CHIROPRACTIC CARE?
If your kids fall a lot or play hard than chiropractic can help! It’s important to get kids checked out because they often don’t have the words to communicate what’s wrong with them.

We accept most insurance, including motor vehicle injury.

New to Massage? Here are a few things to know:

Undress to your comfort level and your therapist will keep you covered except for the area they are massaging.
Please let your therapist know if the pressure is too much or too little, or if you are too hot or too cold.  Your therapist wants to create the best experience for you, but you need to communicate your preferences.
The customary tip is 20% of the price of the massage (not the insurance copay).

Patient policies:
Please arrive early to display your insurance card, do any paperwork, and settle into the space.
Please note that we have limited buffer time between appointments, so if you are running late, it may affect the overall length of your massage.

We do charge the full appointment fee (not the insurance copay) for appointments cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment time.  If you'd like to avoid that fee, you are welcome to send someone in your place.

We charge this fee because last minute cancellations affect our providers' ability to earn an income.  We do make exceptions in emergencies, but otherwise please plan on respecting this policy.

Our naturopathic physician, Dr. Carmen Ionescu, MD. ND., earned her Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from NUNM Portland, and her MD from Carol Davila University of Medicine & Pharmacy in Romania’s capital where, after a 5-year residency, she specialized in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.  Since Dr Carmen’s childhood in Romania, nature medicine and folkways have been part of her life and upbringing in her profession, which partners with the patient. At the side of grandparents and village elders, on mountain paths and country fields, Dr Carmen learned the rich folk remedies, the wisdom of the ages — the keys to physical and mental health. To that wisdom, she harmonizes the breadth and science of modern medicine.

Learn more about Naturopathy:
Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of primary health care – an art, science, philosophy and practice of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illness. Naturopathic medicine is distinguished by the principles which underlie and determine its practice. These principles are based upon the objective observation of the nature of health and disease, and are continually reexamined in the light of scientific advances. Methods used are consistent with these principles and are chosen upon the basis of patient individuality. Naturopathic physicians are primary health care practitioners, whose diverse techniques include modern and traditional, scientific and empirical methods.

The healing power of nature is the inherent self-organizing and healing process of living systems which establishes, maintains and restores health. Naturopathic medicine recognizes this healing process to be ordered and intelligent. It is the naturopathic physician’s role to support, facilitate and augment this process by identifying and removing obstacles to health and recovery, and by supporting the creation of a healthy internal and external environment.

Illness does not occur without cause. Causes may originate in many areas. Underlying causes of illness and disease must be identified and removed before complete recovery can occur. Symptoms can be expressions of the body’s attempt to defend itself, to adapt and recover, to heal itself, or may be results of the causes of disease. The naturopathic physician seeks to treat the causes of disease, rather than to merely eliminate or suppress symptoms.

Bodywork has been a lifelong journey for Alyssa, rooted in love and philosophy. Alyssa loves music, dancing, health, fitness and really anything that involves moving the body and connecting to life.

Our bodies make connecting in the world possible. They support our intentions and protect who we are as beings. Like any other relationship, miscommunications happen. It takes time and effort to maintain a healthy relationship with our bodies and sometimes mediation is necessary. That is where Alyssa can help to reconnect and restore balance.

Alyssa’s style can be described as eccentric, while prioritizing the nervous system, as everything moves a little easier when people feel safe. Alyssa takes the whole body into account for every complaint, working intuitively with Swedish, Deep Tissue, and Myofascial techniques. Alyssa has a lot of experience with the head, neck and shoulders and can help improve mobility and decrease pain.

When not providing massage, Andrew spends his time hiking and camping in the Cascades or working in his vegetable garden.

She holds a master’s degree from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine and practices using acupuncture, electro-acupuncture, Tui Na and Shiatsu massage, Chinese herbs, cupping, gua sha, reflexology, and acupressure. As is the beauty of Chinese Medicine, she customizes each treatment to the unique needs of the individual.

She enjoys working with a variety of conditions including (but not limited to) musculoskeletal, neurological, emotional, gastrointestinal, and poor sleep. She was able to volunteer at a clinic in Nepal to further her practice, where she provided acupuncture and health care to those who otherwise would have little care.

Before entering the world of Chinese Medicine, she completed a 3+ year advanced studies and teacher training program which studied the art and science of yoga. Practicing yoga since 1999, she has experienced the release of emotional blockages through physical movement, which can be shed layer by layer. She now uses acupuncture and massage to help others experience this release.

Robin is a graduate of East West College of the Healing Arts. He has additional trainings in Tui Na, structural bodywork, reflexology, and Pranic Healing - a no touch energy healing method related to Medical Qi Gong. In addition to manual therapy approaches, Robin is a yoga teacher, and loves to utilize principles and techniques from a variety of movement modalities in conjunction with massage treatments.

Robin believes that energetic imbalances are at the root of all disease, pain, and tension in the body. Such imbalances are caused by patterns of misuse, which can be unlearned through working with the somatic nervous system. During treatment, Robin helps clients begin to create new easeful patterns of movement in the physical and subtle body through mental cues, massage, and muscle energy techniques.

Robin was born and raised in Portland, OR, and has always loved massage. As a student of Jefferson High School’s dance program, he had forward thinking teachers who introduced him to the concept of soma, which has guided his life ever since. I am born and raised in Oregon and have grown up with and studied holistic healing and alternative medicines most of my life. This has led me to understand that no ache or pain is of solitary origin. Our bodies are incredibly intricate and complex places, that is why I bring an open curiosity to every body I work with.

Practicing with Structural bodywork including Myofascial Release Techniques and Postural Assessment, Deep Tissue Massage, and Thai Massage I work to find long term solutions to chronic pain and chronic imbalance of posture. I use a whole body approach and consider from the head to the toes the cause and creation of the complaint.

As a student of bodywork and of life I strive to connect physical healing with mental wellness. Through my own experience I have learned that these two things balance heavily off of one another. With this approach to massage I work to aid those living with depression, anxiety, trauma, and other concerns to facilitate a path to find peace and ease of body, mind and spirit.

An heirloom system of Chinese healing that focuses on using the practitioner’s cultivated Qi energy to influence a client’s body for healing. Ben trained for a month in Tibet offering his massage services at a traditional healing hospital and learning Tibetan medicine.

Tuina includes deep tissue techniques, vibration and shaking methods as well as intuitive point acupressure. Clinical Qigong also known as Wai Qi Liao Fa which means healing with external energy makes use of both on and off body methods of energetic manipulation. Both Tuina and Clinical Qigong excel as therapies for pain relief, internal organ balancing and achieving overall balance within the body.

Ben teaches Qigong meditation classes from the Stillness Movement lineage locally here in Portland. Classes are available every month if interested. I have lived in the Pacific NW for most of my life. I love everything about it! The mountains, forests, rivers, and especially the people. MY approach is to integrate Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Trigger Point Therapy, Manual Therapies, and Swedish Massage to address specific issues and general stress and anxiety. Many people have found that his work on the lower legs and feet to be very helpful in relieving pain and tension. Emily is a graduate of the Northwest Academy for the Healing Arts in Tacoma, WA and has also been deeply influenced by the teachings of the Moving Mountain Institute here in Portland. Working primarily with the myofascial system she also incorporates Swedish and deep tissue massage techniques into her work. Both personally and professionally, Emily has experienced massage as a powerful tool for physical, spiritual and emotional transformation.

While not afraid to throw in an elbow, Emily has found that the most potent treatments happen by working gently, in concert with each body’s innate healing capabilities. By moving slowly and curiously at ‘the speed of trust’ she creates time and space for tissues to respond and relax creating a felt sense of safety, ease and comfort. While truly loving to work with all types of folks, Emily’s skills shine brightest when working with people who identify as highly sensitive and those who experience chronic pain, including fibromyalgia.

Born and raised in this Pacific Northwest wonderland, she especially loves her home stomping grounds along the Washington coast of the Olympic Peninsula. When not in the treatment room she can be found in a hammock in the forest, paddle boarding in the ocean or on the couch playing cribbage with her fiance.
